As per GST 2.0 (effective September 22, 2025), India has six GST rates: 0% (essentials), 0.25% (rough diamonds), 3% (gold/silver/precious stones), 5% (transport, restaurants), 18% (most goods and services), and 40% (tobacco, aerated drinks, luxury cars, bikes over 350cc). The earlier 12% and 28% slabs have been abolished.

For intra-state (within the same state) transactions, GST is split equally into CGST (Central) and SGST (State). For inter-state transactions, IGST (Integrated) is charged at the full rate. The total tax amount remains the same.

To find the GST amount from a GST-inclusive price, use: GST Amount = Price - (Price / (1 + GST Rate/100)). For example, if the inclusive price is Rs 1,180 at 18% GST, the base price is Rs 1,000 and GST is Rs 180.
